About

Held annually since 2012, Bridge the Gap has quickly gained popularity as one of Eastern Maine's rites of spring!

In 2017 Crow Athletics became the newest caretakers of this important community event, and changed the course slightly; both races continue the traditional start at Fort Knox in Prospect, and cross the stunning Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The 10-Miler now tours Verona Island from west to east, while the 5k was shortened to a 3-Miler, which now cuts across Verona Island and follows the scenic waterfront walkway. Both races finish on Main Street in the heart of downtown Bucksport!

Crow Athletics has partnered with Main Street Bucksport to help bring this race into their friendly community. In addition to hosting another successful event, one of our primary goals is to encourage runners and their friends/family to explore the downtown business and restaurants — plan to make a day of it in this up and coming former mill town!

Team Cory’s Way for ALS

cory-bennett.jpg

Bridge the Gap for ALS research in memory of Cory W. Bennett of Verona Island

The majority of the Bridge the Gap Race takes place on Verona Island. We encourage participants to leave more than footprints by contributing to this fundraiser for ALS.

Cory Wayne Bennett was a very accomplished person and has many accolades to his honor. He served in the Navy for six years after high school with four deployments: Japan (twice), Bahrain, and Diego Garcia.

Cory found ways to make lifelong friends and build memories for the unsuspecting. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2008 and tackled this disease with determination. He passed into a new world of adventure after a very courageous battle in 2015.

Cory always said that “one should live life to the fullest – if you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space on this earth.”

Click HERE to support Team Cory’s Way for ALS.

We also encourage all Bridge the Gap participants to join or contribute to the Bangor walk for ALS, to be held on August 24th.
