July 4th Relay
Few places scream 'come hither and run' like Mount Desert Island, Maine. The island is home to Acadia National Park plus 16 quaint towns & villages with breathtaking scenery that is better than perfect. The perimeter of MDI is the perfect distance (not too far, not too little) to run as a team to celebrate your Independence Day!
The first July Fourth Around Mount Desert Island Relay was held in 2002 with a single team of area Crows choosing to celebrate Independence Day and their freedom by stretching their wings far and wide over MDI. In 2006 Crow Athletics officially expanded the annual inter-club relay to a competitive team event. We are excited to celebrate our 14th running in 2016!
The 100-kilometer relay route encircles picturesque Mount Desert Island, while running through each and every town and village, including countless scenic vistas framed by the spectacular beauty of Acadia National Park.
Teams of all abilities are invited to participate. Our staggered start system allows for all runners to celebrate and enjoy the finish line festivities together following the race.
Many teams come out to chase leg and course records, while others don costumes and enjoy the holiday camaraderie!
